In Vashi you do not give a locality, you give a sector number. The town was laid out in numbered sectors and everybody here thinks in those numbers — auto drivers, delivery riders, building watchmen — so "Sector 17" or "Sector 9" places you exactly, while a building name on its own often does not. Sector 17 is the centre of gravity, the market and restaurant block where people meet in the evening. Sector 30 is where Inorbit Mall sits, along with the newer flats around it. Sectors 9, 10 and 14 are steady residential blocks that go quiet after dark. Sector 19 is the APMC market side, loud and working at hours when the rest of Vashi is asleep. Give us the sector first and the rest of the address after it.
Everything coming into Vashi from the Mumbai side crosses the creek bridge from Mankhurd, and that bridge decides your waiting time far more than the distance does. When it is clear, Chembur to Vashi is a twenty minute run. When it is not, the same trip doubles. The station complex is the other anchor, with malls built around it, the bus depot beside it, and Harbour Line trains that make Vashi the easiest place in the area to reach without a car. Palm Beach Road begins at the Vashi end and heads south, and that is the route we use going down towards Nerul and Belapur.

Inside Vashi nothing takes long — 10 to 15 minutes between sectors on a normal evening. From Nerul or Belapur allow 20 to 25 minutes coming up the Palm Beach stretch.
